Cash withdrawn with permission of Japanese

Authorities from Mercantile Bank from Anti-T.B. Association Funds for upkeep of T.B. wards in French Hospital and for making soya bean milk for T.B. patients.

Actual amount withdrawn from Anti-T.B. Association Funds HK$41,297.00, of this HK$15,000.00 was drawn in cash and HK$26,297.00 was paid into an Account in the Yokohama Specie Bank by order of the Japanese Authorities.

Of the HK$26,297.00 paid into Yokohama Specie Bank HK$25,000.00 was withdrawn in cash, leaving a balance of HK$ 1,297.00 (in M.Y.) in that Bank.

Of the cash received (i.e. totalling

HK$40,000.00) the sum of HK$31,763.98 was spent before my internment leaving a balance of HK$8,236,02 which was subsequently spent by Dr. P.C. Lai, M.O. i/c of the T.B. wards.

With permission of Japanese Authorities and Mrs. Selwyn-Clarke, funds belonging to the Foreign Auxiliary of the National Red Cross Society of China, amounting to HK$45,240.00 were withdrawn from the Bank of China and used for the purpose of purchasing fresh milk.

When there were insufficient funds to purchase milk (large monthly payments necessary) HK$40,000.00 was borrowed from Hong Kong Bank see Account No. 5.

Balance of this Account was HK$100.00.
